The difference between a MERN stack and a MEAN stack is that MERN utilizes React as a front-end framework while MEAN utilizes Angular. React is a framework created by Meta, while Angular was developed at Google. Both were intended to simplify the development of web apps by their respective companies. React is the framework of Facebook and Instagram, while Angular powers the UI of Gmail and pretty much every other Google app.
Which tech stack is better, MERN or MEAN? The answer is entirely subjective, but MERN stacks tend to be better for smaller apps while MEAN stacks scale very well. Personally, I only have experience developing MERN-stack apps so it is the only one I can vouch for. It all comes down to a different battle, React vs Angular.
You should definitely try both, and see which you prefer. Both have produced some of the best web applications out there. Let me know which you prefer, and why!
